“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” — Luke 11:9–13
After much discernment and prayer, I have decided to close Between the Worlds Church. Our last service will be this Saturday’s Holy Saturday service. It was a difficult decision, but I believe that it is the right one at this time.
Between the Worlds Church, in many ways, was an experiment: what would a Wiccan Christian church look like? Or, to be more specific, what would a radically inclusive multi-faith church look like? In many ways, Between the Worlds was a success. There are people who attended our rituals who have been helped because we were able to demonstrate that you don’t have to give up one tradition in order to still want to love and believe in Jesus.
But, creating and sustaining a church is not easy. Not all who try to start a church succeed. This may not even be the end of Between the Worlds Church, since someone could always take up where I left off. But for now, we will give our last service, and see where Spirit will take us next.
Having help and support is crucial to any ministry. I was very lucky that Denise and Connie said “Yes” when I asked them to be Deacons. They are two of the most capable and wonderful women I know, and are amazing priests in their own right. I thank you for all your hard work and dedication, and, above all, your friendship!
I also want to thank the Pastors and Deacons of City of Refuge, UCC, for the very generous use of the sanctuary and other rooms at Refuge in the last year. I particularly want to give extra special thanks to Deacon Skip and Deacon Eunice for all of the help that they have given us in the last year, especially in helping us with rooms, tables, and opening up the church on the days we’ve held services.
I’d also like to thank my wife, Sarah, for giving me the space, love, and support in order to try this experiment. Thank you, my love!
And finally, on behalf of myself, Connie, and Denise, I’d like to thank all of you who have supported us over the last year and a half. You have all taught me, and each other, so very much!
